BRAZIL: PT in another spat with the media

The relationship between the ruling Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT) and the Brazilian media has never been easy, as the government's attempt to regulate journalistic activity in 2004 revealed. [RBS-04-08] President Lula da Silva has repeatedly claimed that he is "a victim of prejudice" by the Brazilian press and refuses to speak to unsympathetic journalists. According to the PT, the established media tried to "influence" last month's elections with its incessant coverage of the corruption scandals involving members of the party.
